# Registering for a User Account

A personal user account is not required to use the database. However, user accounts offer helpful features such as the ability to save search results in order to access them at a later time.

Users who would like to create a personal account should click on the 'Register' button on the top right hand menu of the database. You will be asked to enter your email and to accept the[ data protection policy](/using-census-data/user-accounts-and-personal-collections/data-protection-policy.md). After clicking on the 'Register Now' button, a code will be sent to the email address that you entered. Please check your spam mail if you cannot find this email in your inbox.

Copy the 6-digit verification code. In the Census database, choose a password for your user account and enter the verification code to validate your Census user account.

Your account is now ready for use.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.census.de/using-census-data/user-accounts-and-personal-collections/registering-for-a-user-account.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
