# Data Sets and Sources

The first step of a search in the database is to select the data you would like to search. You may select from:

* The Primary Object types: Antique Monument or Postclassical Works. These sources can be searched [either individually or in combination using the Sources Menu.](/navigating-and-searching/data-sets-and-sources/the-sources-menu-primary-object-types.md)
* The Secondary Object types: Location, Period, Person, Style, Bibliography, or Image. These can be [searched individually by clicking on the icons on the left-hand side bar](/navigating-and-searching/data-sets-and-sources/the-side-bar-secondary-object-types.md).
